Dulquer Salmaan Reveals Shocking Things About Bollywood Sets

Dulquer Salmaan is a big star down South with many hits in the Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil film industries. Though he is a star in South India, he was apparently ignored in the Hindi film industry. Speaking at the Producers Roundtable of Hollywood Reporter India, Dulquer said that he used to get pushed around and overlooked on sets while working in Bollywood.

Dulquer went on to say that he had to create an illusion that he was a big star to get attention on the sets. “When I did Hindi films, my two people and I would get pushed around the sets. So, I had to create an illusion that I am a big star. Otherwise, I wouldn’t find chairs to sit, find space to look at monitors.” He stated that if actors come in expensive cars, they are considered big stars in Bollywood.

“I realised that it is all perception. If you come in a fancy car with a lot of people, then suddenly the perception is, ‘Oh, this is a star,’ which is sad because that is not where my energy should go,” he said.

Meanwhile, he will be treated in a completely contrasting manner in the Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil film industries. He is given utmost respect and prominence on sets down south. Not only in the case of Dulquer, but every star in the South Indian film industry is given the same amount of respect on sets.

Even if any Bollywood star or actor works down here, they will be welcomed and hosted with good hospitality. But that is not the case in Bollywood. Only a set of actors are given prominence there, and the rest, despite being stars in other industries, are treated like normal actors. Maybe that is the reason why many Bollywood stars like the hospitality they get in the South.

Dulquer made his Bollywood debut with the 2018 film Karwaan. Later, he was seen in The Zoya Factor and Chup. He was last seen in the Tamil film Kaantha. He will be next seen in the Telugu film Aakashamlo Oka Taara and the Malayalam film I’m The Game.
