One of the biggest acquisitions in the history of the global entertainment industry has been completed as Netflix has communicated that they have entered an agreement to acquire the renowned Warner Brothers company.
Today, Netflix, Inc. (the Company) and Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. (WBD) announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Netflix will acquire Warner Bros., including its film and television studios, HBO Max and HBO.
It has further been communicated that the cash and stock transaction is valued at $27.75 per WBD share with a total acquisition value of approximately $82.7 billion.
In terms of Indian currency, this roughly converts to around eight lakh crore rupees (₹8Lakh crore). It is only safe to say that there is one of the biggest transaction in the history of global entertainment as Netflix has acquired Warner Brothers production label, and their subsidiary companies.
It must be noted that this deal has been happening for the last few months, and there were a lot of apprehensions associated with the same. And finally, it has been communicated today that the two companies have acquired on all the terms and the transaction would be completed soon.
This would also mean that Netflix which had been operating the global OTT space well now venture into theatrical film production with the Warner Brothers label and it has to be seen what kind of a cultural impact this would have.
