After putting the idea of making Dadasaheb Phalke biopic on the back burner, Bollywood hit maker Raj Kumar Hirani and top-league actor Aamir Khan have reportedly decided to bring the sequel to their iconic blockbuster youthful comedy ‘3 Idiots’, a 2009 release which emerged as one of the biggest hits in Bollywood and attained the cult classic tag.
While the pre-production activities are reportedly in full swing as the team is planning to launch the sequel in 2026, Bollywood media now reporting that a tentative working title has already been locked. As per these reports, Hirani is considering ‘4 Idiots’ as the title for the second installment. Also, it is heard that the makers are on the hunt for a fourth lead in the sequel.
The script has already been finalized and Hirani is making sure that the sequel gets bigger to match the hype. So, he has decided to infuse more drama and entertainment into the narrative and also included a fresh character who will join Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor.
Bollywood circles speculate that a leading actor will join the cast as the fourth lead and might add more weight to the script with his presence. As soon as the news about the sequel came out in the media, trade circles and audience started a debate on whether Hirani and Aamir Khan can repeat the magic or not after these many years gap. With updates about the sequel flowing out frequently, the buzz is on the upward trajectory now.
3 Idiots went on to become the first Indian film to gross over 200 Crores in those days. The sequel will have bigger box office milestones and Hirani and his team will have their task cut out to achieve them.
