The most discussed topic in film trade circles right now is the box office performance of Dhurandhar. After six years, URI director Aditya Dhar is back with his second directorial film, starring Ranveer Singh. The film released in theatres on Friday, December 5. While it opened on a slow note, Dhurandhar has now turned into a major box office storm.
The film opened with ₹28 crore nett from the North and completed its first week with close to ₹210 crore nett. This strong growth set the stage for an even bigger second week. Dhurandhar collected around ₹260 crore nett in its second week, which is not only higher than its first week but also an all-time record in North India for a second week. It surpassed the previous record held by Pushpa 2, which earned around ₹200 crore nett in its second week, creating a significant margin.
Entering its third week, Dhurandhar has crossed ₹500 crore nett and shows no signs of slowing down. Despite the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19, the impact on Dhurandhar is expected to be minimal. With the Christmas and New Year holidays ahead and no major Hindi releases lined up, the film is expected to comfortably touch ₹600 crore nett, with a strong possibility of reaching ₹700 crore. It is also on track to become the highest grosser of the year, potentially beating Kantara: Chapter 1. Whether it can reach the ₹1,000 crore gross mark remains to be seen.
Notably, Dhurandhar has achieved all this with a single Hindi version. As with many major box office successes, Telugu audiences have shown curiosity, there is also strong demand for a Telugu dubbed version.
Dhurandhar is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under the banners Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi, with Manav Gohil, Danish Pandor, Saumya Tandon, and Gaurav Gera in key roles.
