Sankranthi season has traditionally been dominated by hero-driven films. But it looks like the tables have turned for 2026, as the festive lineup clearly indicates that the stakes are equally high for leading ladies as well.
With multiple big-ticket releases arriving together, this year’s festive season has become a checkpoint for several actresses looking to consolidate, revive, or recalibrate their place.
‘Rebel Star’ Prabhas’s ‘Raja Saab’ stars Nidhhi Agerwal and Malavika Mohanan, both of whom didn’t score a hit for quite some time. Even with ‘Powerstar’ Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Hari Hara Veera Mallu’, Nidhhi couldn’t taste success. Her fate truly depends on this film.
‘Megastar’ Chiranjeevi’s ‘Mana Shankara Varaprasad Gaaru’ seems not just crucial for the Megastar but also for the Lady Superstar. Nayanthara enjoys a strong fan base among Telugu audiences, yet she failed to placed herself on the successful hit list since Jawan.
‘Mass Maharaj’ Ravi Teja’s ‘Bhartha Mahasayulaku Wignyapthi’ places Ashika Ranganath and Dimple Hayathi in a decisive zone. Both actresses are coming off a phase where their recent projects failed to leave a strong theatrical impact, making this outing particularly important.
‘Nari Nari’ turns into a crucial checkpoint for Samyuktha Menon. Despite strong performances and critical appreciation in the past, her recent films have struggled to secure clear commercial wins.
Coming to Meenakshi Chaudhary, who scored a big blockbuster with Sankranthiki Vasthunam last year, couldn’t score a proper hit after that. So, Naveen Polishetty’s Anaganaga Oka Raju is not only crucial for him but also for Meenakshi.
This pressure also extends to dubbed films.
‘Jana Nayakudu’ is important for Pooja Hegde after major films failed to deliver at the box office. At this stage, she can’t limit herself to hit item numbers alone. The same applies to Sreeleela, who is in the festive race with ‘Parashakti’ following recent setbacks with ‘Junior’ and ‘Mass Jathara’.
