After Homebound, Two More Indian Films Enter the Oscar Race

Hombale Films is one of the top production houses in South India currently. They bankrolled one of the best films in Indian cinema. Interestingly, the production house announced the entry of #KantaraChapter1 in the Best Picture contention race at the Oscars Academy Awards 2026. Surprisingly, another film they distributed is also in the race.

Hombale also announced the entry of Mahavatar Narsimha into the Best Picture race for the Academy Awards 2026. Interestingly, both are prestigious projects, helping the production house win big accolades. But, as per the analysts, Mahavatar Narsimha will have an edge over Kantara as it is an animated movie.

With the trend of animation films picking up in Hollywood, there are chances for the jury to consider Narsimha over the other traditional commercial films. Kantara has a deep-rooted story, dedicated to that particular region, but it has a universal appeal.

Meanwhile, Hindi film Homebound has also recently been shortlisted in the Oscars race, securing a place in the Top 15 of the Official Entry category. With its emotional storytelling, the film explores themes of identity, family bonds, and the journey of returning to one’s roots, which is expected to resonate well with the international jury.
