Sankranthi BO 2026: What If Dubbed Movies Were Released?

A festival window like Sankranti can accommodate three to four releases every year. But this year’s festival witnessed an overcrowded season for Tollywood due to the release of five notable movies in a span of less than one week. 

Because of too many releases, there is an acute shortage of theatres in both Telugu states. Despite huge demand for more number of shows, distributors are unable to secure the required number of shows to cope up with the growing demand as all films are scrambling for additional screens at the same time to take advantage of the festival atmosphere. 

Even after securing unanimous reviews and blockbuster word of mouth, Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankar Vara Prasad Garu is struggling to get adequate number of screens as Prabhas’ The Raja Saab is still holding majority of screens due to prior agreements because of big break even targets. 

With no option left, distributors are planning 1AM shows for Mana Shankar Vara Prasad Garu not just because of the talk but due to limited number of screens for regular shows. 

On the other side, Ravi Teja’s Bhartha Mahasayalaku Wignyapthi opened to decent reports. The film needs more screens to cash in on the glowing mouth talk. But, the hectic competition is hampering the film from reaching the full potential at the box office. Naveen Polishetty’s Ananaganaga Oka Raju is getting positive reports and will need to hold its screens to perform well in the next three days.

Meanwhile , Sharwanand’s Nari Nari Naduma Murari is set to occupy decent number of theatres due to the promising pre-release buzz. If the film gets positive talk, it will attract family audiences because of regular ticket prices. 

So, distributors of all Sankranti releases are facing a tough time to secure additional screens and this will surely impact the revenues bigtime. Too many releases turned out to be an undoing factor and created a big headache for both trade circles and buyers. 

If this is the situation when five films released at a time, imagine the scenario had dubbing movies made it to screens during the festival season. Luckily, Tamil dubbing films like Jana Nayakudu, Parasakthi and Annagaru Vostaru got postponed in Telugu as they faced censor issues for their original versions.
