Dhanush and director Aanand L Rai recently collaborated for the second time on Tere Ishk Mein. While the film did not receive the unanimous response as Raanjhanaa, it performed well commercially with decent word of mouth.
Now, there is a controversy surrounding the movie. As per the media reports, Eros International Ltd has moved the Bombay High Court against filmmaker Aanand L Rai and his banner Colour Yellow Media Entertainment LLP, alleging that they unlawfully capitalised on the goodwill of its 2013 blockbuster Raanjhanaa while promoting Tere Ishk Mein.
The corporate production house claimed that the makers of Tere Ishk Mein promoted it by claiming it a spiritual sequel of the original. Now, Eros is seeking damages of Rs 84 crore, claiming losses from Rai’s actions. Eros filed a commercial intellectual property lawsuit and an interim application.
By naming multiple parties, Eros turned this into a multi-party legal battle focused on the intellectual property rights of Raanjhanaa and the alleged misuse in Tere Ishk Mein. Eros asserts that it is the producer and “exclusive owner of all intellectual property rights” related to Raanjhanaa.
Most importantly, Eros also highlighted the fact that the teaser of Tere Ishk Mein used the hash tags such as “From the world of Raanjhanaa” and “#WorldOfRaanjhanaa”. As of now, the makers of Tere Ishk Mein did not respond to it.
