The star-studded Celebrity Cricket League featuring artists from different film industries is back with the twelfth edition which kicked off in Vishakhapatnam on January 16th. A total of 8 teams are contesting in this league with venues identifed across the country for playing round robin and knockout matches in this season.
Tollywood’s Telugu Warriors, which is led by Akkineni Akhil as Captain, opened its account in this season by registering the first victory on Saturday night. After losing the first match in the hands of Bhojpuri Dabanggs by 41 runs, Telugu Warriors made a strong comeback by clinching a convincing win in the second match against Punjab De Sher.
Akhil scored a blazing century in 56 balls with his sublime batting performance and the team to a 52 run victory against the formidable and last year champions Punjab De Sher. Ashwin Babu played second fiddle to Akhil with his well made 60 runs. Samrat and Vinay Mahadev were the pick of the bowlers.
Telugu Warriors set a daunting target of 185 runs. In reply, the defending champions were bundled out for 132 despite a lone fight from Karan Wahi. They are now out of the tourney with back-to-back defeats in the first two games.
With this much needed win, Telugu Warriors’ hopes to qualify for the knockout stage are still alive with one more game coming up in the group stage. Every team will play three games and the top two teams in each group will proceed to the semi finals.
