Jana Nayagan: Finally A Solution On Cards?

As there is no light at the end of the tunnel in the prolonged legal quagmire so far, the makers of Thalapathy Vijay’s farewell film Jana Nayagan seem to have finally decided to settle the controversy outside the court to ensure a smooth release very soon. 

As per the latest reports in Kollywood media, KVN Productions has reportedly came to a conclusion to withdraw the court case against the decision of Central Board of Film Certification to send the film to a revised screening committee which has escalated the entire issue into a full-blown legal controversy between the board and the movie team, leading to an inordinate delay in releasing the film. 

Sources revealed that the key decision was taken by the team in consultation with Vijay after the Madras High Court set aside the single judge’s order and sent the matter back for a fresh hearing of the writ petition, which has further pushed the release date into a state of uncertainty. 

As the long delay has already caused considerable damage to the film’s theatrical prospects, it is believed that production has decided to come to terms with the CBFC and approach the Revising Committee for censor certification at the earliest. The makers even agreed to implement all the changes and modifications suggested by the CBFC before sending the film to the committee. 

After the High Court’s latest order on Tuesday, trade circles and industry observers felt that that the film might release only after the general assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. But, the team appears to have finally arrived at a solution not to delay the release any further. So, a new release date might be announced very soon. 

Directed by H Vinoth and produced by Venkat K. Narayana, Jana Nayagan is touted to be a political action thriller inspired by Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari. The film stars Vijay, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju in key roles. The film was originally slated for release on January 9th as a Pongal gift.
