Border Films Face Theatre Mishaps Then And Now

War, action, and drama films usually do not perform well in India, and many of them fail at the box office. Border was a clear exception. Based on the 1971 Indo-Pak war, the film released in 1997 and connected strongly with audiences, turning into a huge blockbuster.

Nearly thirty years later, Border 2 has repeated that impact. With Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty in lead roles, the film is seeing a strong response and is moving close to the Rs 350 crore mark worldwide.

Amid this success, the film also faced an unexpected incident. A morning show of Border 2 at Rajhans Multiplex in Valsad was cancelled after part of the ceiling inside the auditorium collapsed just before the screening began.

The theatre staff cleared the hall in time, and no one was injured. The authorities later stepped into secure the area, raising fresh concerns about the upkeep of older cinema halls.

The incident also reminded many of the tragic Uphaar Cinema fire during a screening of Border in 1997, which claimed 59 lives. That event remains one of the most painful moments in Indian cinema history.

This time, things ended differently, with everyone walking away safe. As Border 2 continues its successful run, the contrast between the film’s box office journey and these real-life moments has not gone unnoticed.
