Until a few films ago, Vishwak Sen’s movies used to open with decent numbers irrespective of pre-release buzz. He enjoyed a solid craze among the masses, especially in single screens. However, things seem to have changed now as his last few films have not done well.
After Laila ended up as a box office disaster, its impact now seems to be visible on his latest release, Funky, which had carried good buzz before its release. Directed by Anudeep KV, the comedy entertainer has opened to average collections in Telugu states, and the response has been far from encouraging, even on day two at the box office, which happens to be a weekend.
Though Funky is reportedly doing slightly better in a few regions, the overall occupancy remains below expectations. Trade analysts feel this could be a wake-up call for the young actor to get things back on track in his career, which looks a bit bleak.
There is no doubt that Vishwak Sen is a talented performer with a strong screen presence. But the way he has been choosing his scripts lately has disappointed a section of his fan base. If he wants to regain his box office stamina, it’s high time he rethinks his script selection and comes back with stronger content.
