Surprising Shift: The Devotional Trend Begins in Kollywood!

Kollywood film industry is always first to experiment with genres but over the years, the filmmakers are always reluctant in picking up mythological and devotional genres.

They always expertise in making dramas and action films. However, there seems to be a change in the way the films are being made currently. The filmmakers seem to be picking up devotional films of late.

Currently, star heroes are also attempting films in these genres. Mookuthi Amman is one of the hit films in Tamil, starring Nayanthara in the lead role. Now, Nayan is busy with the sequel of the same. A star heroine attempting to do a film like this is appreciable as it would attract crowds to theatres.

Suriya is also doing a devotional film now, in the direction of RJ Balaji. Titled Karuppu, the film is creating a special interest already, with the teaser coming out. The film is a great shift to what Suriya has been doing of late. This is the first time Suriya is doing a film like this. If it clicks, more stars will join the race.

On the other hand, Sivakarthikeyan is coming up with the film Seyon. The movie has devotional elements, marking a shift from his usual action genre. Fans are eager to watch this contemporary drama based on Lord Muruga.

Slowly, the tamil filmmakers are trying to adapt to this new strategy which could be a part of their vision to appeal to pan-India audiences as it could bring them wider reach at the box office.
