Director Makes Shocking Claims About OTT Pressure

Anurag Kashyap, who earned a name as one of the finest directors in Bollywood with acclaimed films like Black Friday and Gangs of Wasseypur, has seen his momentum slow down in recent years. After a few failures and growing frustration with Bollywood controversies, he reduced his film projects and began focusing more on web films.

In a recent interview, Anurag revealed that his long association with Netflix pushed him into severe health issues and even a life threatening condition.

Speaking about a project, which he was supposed to make for Netflix, Anurag said he faced extreme difficulties. He revealed that he spent a lot of money and dedicated over a year and a half to writing the script. Surprisingly, he claimed that Netflix approved the project without even fully understanding the story, and despite his insistence, no one in the team properly read the script. Eventually, Netflix went silent on the project.

He further stated that the platform later asked him to direct a different script. Since he was not satisfied with that script, he requested more time. However, Netflix allegedly pressured him, saying that the artists had given their dates and the project had to move forward.

Anurag also said that when Netflix liked another project he had written, they asked him to modify it in the style of Money Heist’s Indian version, a working approach he strongly disliked.

Due to the immense stress during this entire phase, Anurag revealed that he suffered two heart attacks. He had to take blood thinning medication and also experienced side effects after taking the Covid vaccine.

Such situations place directors in extremely tough and vulnerable conditions. Creative professionals often carry immense financial, emotional, and professional pressure, especially when dealing with large platforms and high expectations.
