Drishyam 3’s Hide & Seek Gamble Raises Eyebrows

Malayalam director Jeetu Joseph’s Drishyam stands as one of the most successful movie series from South cinema because the first two parts garnered wide appreciation in multiple languages. Interestingly, the makers are now coming up with the third installment only in Malayalam unlike the previous two parts which had a simultaneous release in other languages as well.

Despite the fact that Drishyam 3 will have a strong anticipation among Malayalam audiences, the team has been maintaining absolute silence without making any promotions to generate hype around the film. Adding to this strange hide and seek strategy is the confusion surrounding the release date.

Drishyam 3 was initially announced to hit the screens on April 2nd. However, it was postponed to May 21st due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in Gulf countries. Since then, there has been no update from the team. There is no single update until today and this has given rise to rumours that the film might get postponed again to another date.

All of a sudden, the makers have now reiterated silently that the film will hit the screens on May 21st. Yet, there is no other update about the promotional content even though the release date in just four weeks away. This confusion is impacting the buzz in a negative manner.

Given that Drishyam has achieved a cult status because of the intrigue factor and suspense elements, the silence adopted by the team is very baffling and shocking for both trade circles and critics. Many feel that such a strategy might backfire and result in poor openings if the team rely only on the franchise hype instead of starting promotions immediately.

Moreover, Drishyam 3 is releasing only in Malayalam this time and the uncertainty on other versions continues because there is no clarity on when the Hindi and Telugu adaptations will release.

It is unclear whether the team is intentionally not releasing any content or taking a gamble with a different strategy this time. Whatever may be the reason, this is not at all working in favour of the film as of now. How audiences respond when the film releases will prove whether this is a correct approach or not.

Drishyam 3 will see Mohanlal making a comeback as George Kutty. Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil were retained for prominent roles.
