Telugu audiences have once again proved that they are always ready to encourage good content, irrespective of language or star power. Over the years, viewers in the Telugu states have consistently supported well-made films from Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and even Hindi cinema if the content connects emotionally.
The latest box office trend is a strong example of this changing mindset. Suriya’s Veera Bhadurudu, which was released last week, opened to mixed reviews initially. However, the film managed to click with Telugu audiences because of its Mass moments and Suriya’s image.
The film performed especially well in Hyderabad and several centers in Andhra Pradesh, eventually crossing the breakeven mark comfortably. Now, Drishyam 3 is witnessing a similar trend.
Despite receiving divided reactions in some regions, Telugu audiences are turning up in good numbers for the thriller franchise. The decent word of mouth and curiosity factor helped the film recover its investments quickly.
What makes this situation even more interesting is that Telugu cinema failed to utilize this favorable release window. While dubbed and non-Telugu films are enjoying solid theatrical runs, several Telugu producers avoided these dates and are now heading toward heavily crowded release periods in the coming weeks with films like Peddi gearing up for release.
The success of these films clearly proves one thing: Telugu audiences are hungry for strong content, and if the film delivers entertainment, language is no longer a barrier.
