Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide case investigation led to many arrests in drug procurement and abuse allegations. Along with Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty got arrested for alleged links with drug peddlers. Rhea was released on bail, but Showik was rejected bail and had been in jail for three months.
Finally, the special NDPS court granted him bail stating that the charge of financing illicit trafficking or trading of drugs does not apply to him in this case. Considering his role in the entire case as accused by NCM on his involvement in drug trafficking, the court said the Section 27A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act does not apply in his case. If the case is proven he can be punished for up to 20 years.
Earlier, Rhea was granted bail stating that her procuring drugs do not mean she financed or traded any business that involved them. NCB could not recover any drugs from Showik. The court also observed that Showik Chakraborty is a 24-year-old young student who did not have any history regarding the accusations.
