Premalu 2 Shelved: A Wise Decision ?

Malayalam cinema has delivered numerous coming-of-age romantic dramas till date. But, the 2024 rom-com Premalu was among the fewest to achieve the cult classic status in recent years. Starring Naslen and Mamitha Baiju, the film struck a chord with young moviegoers and create a box office storm after its release in 2024.

As the film received a tremendous response beyond Malayalam, the makers planned a sequel by retaining the core plot with the same cast and crew. The sequel was supposed to take off in mid 2026 once the director wraps up the script work. But, here is a big disappointing news for all those who have been waiting for the sequel.

Going by statement of actor Naslen during his recent podcast, Premalu 2 has reportedly been shelved as of now. Speaking to the anchor, Naslen clarified that the plans to bring the next installment are put on the back burner due to scripting issues. He confirmed that the idea has been dropped for now.

While the latest development will be a huge shock to moviegoers, it is indeed a wise decision if the team decided to shelve it due to lack of proper script because there are massive expectations on the second installment following the huge success of the first part.

Nowadays, many sequels are being announced just for namesake to create some hype without actually having a proper script that deserves another installment. Many such announcements didn’t take off or got delayed.

Premalu has won critical acclaim and saw a phenomenal success at the box office. So, the second part would usually draw more attention and hype once it is announced. To match the hype, the makers will need to come up with perfect output or else they would face the wrath of moviegoers for spoiling the soul of the story.

So, it is an ideal decision to drop the plan and leave it as a classic forever.
