Ramayana Distribution Rights at a Record Low Price?

Ramayana is one of the most-awaited films in the history of Indian cinema. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, and Yash in key roles, the mythological drama will be released in two parts.

The first instalment will be out this Diwali on November 6, 2026, and there is a lot of curiosity as to how this epic will fare after the mixed response to the teaser, which was revealed a few months ago.

On the other hand, Reportedly Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions will distribute the film in India. Going into details, the makers of Ramayana, invited a few production houses and corporates and showcased parts of the film to them. The bidding for the theatrical rights began at Rs 500 crore, but Dharma Productions bagged the deal at Rs 250 crore for the first part.

The said number of Rs 250 crore is a worrying number, as Ramayana is being made on a budget of Rs 4000(2 Parts) crore, and it was made official by producer Namit himself. For a film of such magnitude, selling away the rights for just Rs 250 crore is something disappointing and gives an idea that the hype created is nowhere being showcased in the pre-release business.

There is no doubt that the film will take a solid opening and make these numbers easily, but selling the rights for such low figures has become a talking point in the film circles. May believe that Dharma Productions have bagged a crazy deal for such a less price and will make big money by selling the film internally

Namit Malhotra has produced the film and is making sure Ramayana gets solid deals ahead of its release. But at present, things have started on a dull note and one needs to see if things change in the days to come.
