Can Venky Win Telugu Families With a Tamil Flavour?

All eyes are on Suriya’s next, Vishwanath & Sons. Starring Mamitha Baiju as the female lead, the family drama is directed by Venky Atluri and produced by Naga Vamsi. However, Venky has clarified that it is neither a Telugu film nor a bilingual. He made it clear that the film was shot entirely in Tamil, and that the Telugu version will only be a dubbed release.

Since both the director and producer are Telugu, many expected the film to be a Telugu-Tamil bilingual. Many in T-town, along with Suriya’s Telugu fans, assumed it would be shot simultaneously in both languages. Hence, Venky’s clarification has come as a surprise. According to the director, the story’s original language and the lead actors’ comfort were the main reasons behind the decision.

This is unlike Venky Atluri’s previous film, Sir / Vaathi, which was simultaneously shot as a Telugu-Tamil bilingual. In contrast, Vishwanath & Sons is purely a Tamil film. Even Suriya’s last release, Veerabhadrudu (Karuppu in Tamil), was a Tamil film, but it worked well in Telugu because it was a mass entertainer.

However, Vishwanath & Sons is a class-oriented film. Family audiences in Telugu states are more likely to connect with it if it carries a stronger Telugu flavour. In that context, Venky’s statement could raise concerns about the film’s appeal among Telugu family audiences.

GV Prakash has composed the music for the film. Vishwanath & Sons is all set to hit theatres on August 14, 2026. In Tamil, it will clash with Nayanthara’s Hi at the box office.
