Telugu audiences have never cared much about language when the content connects. Premalu proved this perfectly, with smart promotions and active involvement from the team helping the Malayalam film become a blockbuster in Telugu states.
Recent Malayalam sensation Bethlehem Kudumba Unit had a similar opportunity but failed to utilize the Telugu market properly. Despite strong word of mouth in Malayalam, the film did not get the promotion or show count needed to reach a wider audience.
The biggest problem was the delayed Telugu release. The limited OTT window also affected the number of Telugu shows in multiplexes, hurting the film’s initial bookings despite the positive talk.
As per trade reports, the film has reportedly collected around ₹3 crore gross in its first weekend in Telugu. That is disappointing for a film that has already crossed the ₹250 crore mark in Malayalam alone.
The comparison with Premalu makes the missed opportunity even more obvious. Premalu team understood the Telugu audience, planned the promotions well and actively promoted the film, turning it into a major success.
Bethlehem Kudumba Unit may have delivered a blockbuster result in Malayalam, but the makers missed a crucial Telugu market. At least now, the industry should understand that Telugu film lovers can shower love beyond language and region if the content connects.
