6 AM To 2 AM? Vijay’s Big Boost To Theatres

Tamil Nadu could soon see a major change in cinema show timings. The film industry wants the Vijay-led government to allow theatres to screen movies from 6 AM until 2 AM. If the proposal gets approval, audiences will have more options to watch films, especially during big releases.

The demand has come from theatre owners, producers and distributors who believe extended timings can bring more business to the exhibition sector. Big-star films often witness huge demand during the opening days, but limited show timings prevent theatres from accommodating more audiences.

Industry representatives recently discussed the proposal with Tamil Nadu Information and Publicity Minister A Rajmohan. They reportedly explained how additional shows could help theatres increase ticket sales and improve their revenues.

Producer G Dhananjeyan has also pointed out that the extended schedule could add around 1,200 screenings across Tamil Nadu every day. This could make a significant difference during major releases featuring stars like Vijay, Rajinikanth and Ajith.

Interestingly, the Vijay government had already taken a decision allowing five shows per day during the first seven days of a new film’s release. This move reduced the need for film-specific permissions for additional shows within the permitted schedule.

However, the demand for 6 AM and late-night shows is a separate matter. The industry is now looking for a wider operating window that would give theatres more flexibility.

If the government accepts the proposal, Tamil Nadu could become one of the most flexible markets for theatrical releases. Early morning shows have always been a major attraction for fans of star heroes, particularly on the first day.
