MAA Elections: Why Is This Craze?

Telugu film industry is currently attracting craze ever since the discussion of Movie Artists Association (MAA) elections made into the headlines. Prakash Raj is the first to announce his participation for the president’s post. Later, Manchu Vishnu, Jeevitha Rajashekar and Hema too announced their interest. However, the million dollar question is, “How would this MAA election help these actors?”

After Murali Mohan stepped down as the President of Movie Artists Association, the association is constantly attracting controversies. Rajendra Prasad panel and Jayasudha panel fought with one another and garnered a huge attention from the media. Rajendra Prasad won the election. After RP’s tenure came to an end, Sivaji Raja has been elected as the President unanimously. After Sivaji Raja, the association elected Vijaya Naresh as the President. Naresh’s term made into news for multiple reasons and there were internal issues among his panel members. However, things ended smoothly.

Now, the election is getting an attention equal to that of Assembly and Parliament general elections. Prakash Raj, Jeevitha Rajashekar, Hema and Manchu Vishnu are fighting for the President post. Already, Prakash Raj and Manchu Vishnu started seeking support from senior actors.

MAA association is strictly limited to artists in the movie industry and it can not dictate any other association related to movies in the industry. Still, the actors fight hard to claim power. However, MAA President is just a normal position and holds no big power. All he/she can do is to do some charity works and there’s no scope to do more. Anyone who is in that position will implement the same but still the artists go to an extent in winning the election.

MAA President is never the single point of contact for the issues in film industry. Until Dasari was alive, he used to solve the issues. Later, megastar Chiranjeevi is considered as the ‘Andharivadu’ and whoever has his support will be the President. Rajendra Prasad, Sivaji Raja and Naresh didn’t do anything different from Murali Mohan. Looking at the enthusiasm these actors are currently showing, one wonders what is that they are going to achieve by winning this election!
