Generally, there is no active censoring that happens for OTT Content in India, and this is the reason why several films come with uncut and uncensored versions on platforms like Netflix and Amazon.
In this regard, everyone expected Netflix to release the uncut and uncensored version of their hallmark outing Dhurandhar which premiered last night in multiple Indian languages. But it turned out to me that Netflix through a massive curveball at the Indian audience.
Let alone releasing the uncut and uncensored version Netflix went on to release the OTT copy that had lesser footage than the theatrical print. In fact, nearly 10 minutes footage from the theatrical print was further trimmed from the Netflix version.
Fans who expected to watch the extended version with all the generic cuss words in place were left gutted after Netflix released OTT version, which was even shorter than the theatrical print, and had all the cuss words muted.
The raw and rustic experience that fans had expected from Netflix wasn’t even remotely the case with Dhurandhar as it had an even weaker OTT cut. Fans on social media have been vocal while criticising Netflix for the reckless approach in this regard.
Earlier, Netflix had failed to release the uncut and uncensored version of Animal as well, and they faced a lot of criticism even back then. But it appears that the leading OTT platform still hasn’t learned this lesson as they have messed it up with Dhurandhar as well.
