Iranian air space remains closed to most international flights. The war between Iran and Israel is not stopping anywhere. However interestingly, Iran decided to open the airspace exclusively for Indian evacuation flights. Reportedly, 1000 Indian students who were stranded in Iranian cities are going to be air lifted today.
Named Operation Sindhu, the government of India’s evacuation programme is expected to bring back 1000 Indian students to Delhi. The first flight is scheduled to land at 11 PM IST tonight in Delhi. The other two flights which are planned are scheduled for Saturday. One of them will land in the morning while the other one in evening.
With the launch of missiles between the two countries and the drone attacks getting aggressive, Iran closed its air space. But, India has been granted an exclusive corridor to carry out the evacuation of its students.
“India accords highest priority to the safety and security of Indian nationals abroad. The Indian government is grateful to the governments of Iran and Armenia for facilitating the safe passage of Indian nationals through their territories,” an MEA spokesperson said.
More than 10,000 Indian nationals are living in Iran, including over 2,000 students.
