Ukrainian Girl’s Murder Sparks Trump’s Death Penalty Demand

US President Donald Trump has demanded the death penalty for the suspect, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr., who brutally murdered a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee, Iryna Zarutska, while riding the light rail in Charlotte, North Carolina, on August 22, 2025. The shocking incident was caught on a CCTV camera inside the train and spread like wildfire on social media across the world.

Taking to Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump wrote, “The ANIMAL who so violently killed the beautiful young lady from Ukraine, who came to America searching for peace and safety, should be given a ‘Quick’ (there is no doubt!) Trial and only awarded THE DEATH PENALTY. There can be no other option!!!” Needless to say, Trump’s demand for the attacker’s death penalty has received widespread support from all over the world.

Iryna had moved to the United States from Ukraine in search of peace and safety. Her killer, Decarlos Brown Jr., is a repeat criminal offender and reportedly served jail time in the past. Brown was arrested the same day of the attack and has been charged with committing an act causing death on a mass transportation system.

Iryna’s brutal killing has led to an intense political blame game between the Democrats and Republicans over the root causes of the tragedy. Republicans, including Trump, argued that the Democratic-led cities are failing to control the rising crime rate.

On the other hand, Democrats countered that the GOP is at fault for not adequately funding law enforcement. Even the US justice system was criticized for its “soft on crime” policies, which have allowed repeat offenders to roam free, endangering the public.
