No Entry: US Bars Indian Business Leaders in Fentanyl Case

In tune with the efforts of the Trump administration in checking narcotics, the US Embassy in New Delhi has revoked and denied visas to certain business executives and corporate leaders, allegedly involved in trafficking fentanyl precursors. The Trump administration has already issued a series of executive orders regarding securing US borders, dismantling drug trafficking networks and insisting that the source countries take strong action to curb the transport of illicit drugs and chemicals.

The Embassy said the decision was taken under Section 221(i), Section 212(a)(2)(C), and Section 214(b) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act. Consequently, the affected persons and their close family members may be deemed ineligible for travel to the US. The executives associated with companies flagged for fentanyl precursor trafficking will also be put under tight scrutiny for issuing visa applications in the future.

“The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi remains steadfast in its commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking. Individuals and organizations involved in the illegal production and trafficking of drugs to the United States, along with their families, will face consequences that may include being denied access to the United States,” said Chargé d’affaires Jorgan Andrews.

Reiterating Trump’s statement on checking illegal drug trafficking, the Embassy also highlighted that stopping the flow of fentanyl and its precursors into the US is a top priority. At the same time, it acknowledged the cooperation of the Indian government in dealing with the challenge. The Embassy felt that the transnational threat posed by narcotics can be checked only through joint action by both the nations.

The Trump Administration has already introduced a series of Executive Orders aimed at securing U.S. borders, dismantling drug trafficking networks, and pressing source countries to take stronger action against the flow of illicit drugs and chemicals.
