An 18-year-old Indian student Vaishnav Krishnakumar, studying at Middlesex University Dubai, died of cardiac arrest during Diwali celebrations in the city. During the celebrations, Vaishnav collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital but could not be saved. Doctors declared he was brought dead.
The Dubai police said that the Forensic Department has launched an investigation into the death, to ascertain the cause and circumstances surrounding the student’s sudden death. However, preliminary information pointed to cardiac arrest, even when his family said he had no known history of heart-related ailments.
Vaishnav belonged to Chennithala in Alappuzha district, Kerala, and was pursuing first-year BBA (Marekting) at Middlesex. He was born and raised in the UAE by his parents VG Krishnakumar and Vidhu Krishnakumar. He was their elder child. Krishnakumar has been employed in the UAE for over two decades. The family is familiar to all the members in the Malayali community.
Vaishnav was a former student of GEMS Our Own Indian School and is remembered as a high-achieving student. He also received the UAE Golden Visa, a prestigious long-term residence permit awarded to outstanding students, professionals, and individuals with exceptional potential. He was also involved in Model United Nations (MUN) activities.
