A Dalit woman, Gunnikuntla Sireesha (35), belonging to Gurappagaripalli in Veeraballi mandal, died under suspicious circumstances in Kuwait. Sireesha’s husband Mallikarjuna said that he was informed of Sireesha’s death due to accidental burn injuries. He alleged that her employers in Kuwait murdered her by intentionally leaking gas and lighting the flame while she was cooking in the kitchen, which led to her death. It is not an accident but a pre-meditated murder, he alleged.
Sireesha went to Kuwait in search of a livelihood and had been working as a maid servant in a landlord’s house for the last one year. Usually, she used to send home her salary every two months but for the last two months, she had been complaining of harassment by her employer and did not send any money. Sireesha has three children.
Mallikarjuna said that Sireesha’s employer told him that she suffered burns due to accidental gas leak but she refused to get treated as she was having some work. However, the employer claimed to have forcibly taken her in a private ambulance to the hospital. However, Mallikarjuna suspects foul play by the employer.
On Thursday evening, doctors examined Sireesha and declared she was dead. Her employer informed about the death to Mallikarjuna and his relatives. On inquiry, Mallikarjuna suspected foul and lodged a complaint with Annamayya district collector and the SP. The collector said that they would take up the issue with the Kuwait Embassy.
