Nearly 3 years after the horrifying car accident that claimed the life of Telugu origin graduate, Jaahnavi Kandula in Seattle, United States, her family received a significant financial compensation.
According to the latest developments, the family of Jaahnavi, a native of Kurnool, AP had filed a suit over the killing of the young lady in a freakish police car collision that happened in Seattle. Now, they have been approved for $29M financial compensation by the Seattle City and this roughly converts to Rs 232 Crore in Indian currency.
Earlier, the incident involved Seattle Police Officer Kevin Dave striking and killing 23-year-old graduate student Jaahnavi Kandula on Jan 23, 2023, while driving 74 mph in a 25 mph zone during an emergency response. Jaahnavi was killed on the spot due to the injuries.
The family filed a suit on this matter and they’ve received financial justice now as the city of Seattle has agree to pay the family the mentioned amount of money.
This incident had sparked a lot of public outrage and backlash, not just from the Telugu and Indian communities, but also the local population. Subsequently, the city had to settle the case for a significant financial compensation.
On the other hand, the police officer who is the main culprit in this case, got away without any felony charges and had to pay $5000 fine and got suspended from duty.
