Toilet Trouble In US Largest Warship?

US President Donald Trump is eyeing the Nobel Peace Prize and frequently claims to have ended “8 wars in just 8 months” but the condition of the US Navy’s largest warship is plagued by a problem, which reflects a stark contrast to his claims.

The extended journey of US Navy’s largest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R Ford, has led to complications not related to war but something completely different. With no time left for carrying out the maintenance works, life has been thrown out of gear for the 4,500 sailors aboard the nuclear-powered Navy warship.

Billed as the world’s most expensive warship, built at a cost of $13.3 billion, it is now facing clogged toilets and a complete breakdown of the sewage system.

As US President Donald Trump issued a threat to Iran, the warship is into the eighth month of its travel, which had been at sea since June 2025. In January, the warship played a crucial role when Venezuela was targeted and President Nicolas Maduro was captured. Now, it has been deployed in the Middle East, ready to strike against Iran.

Usually, the warship is into the sea for a period of six months, but this time, it has gone beyond and extended to 8 months, exhausting not only the sailors but also the ship’s infrastructure.

A report in the Wall Street Journal stated that the 650 toilets in the warship are not working smoothly, leading to queues of up to 45 minutes daily. The report stated that technicians are working nearly 19 hours a day to clear the mess. Also, the sailors are constantly in dispute with hull technicians involved in the plumbing and repair works, as the condition fails to improve even as days are passing by.

Despite the heavy cost incurred in providing the state-of-the-art facilities while building the warship, it has been identified that frequent sanitation problems have been cropping up due to the fragile vacuum-based sewage system, which means failure of a single valve could disable all toilets in an entire department.

Reportedly, the US Navy needs to spend $4,00,000 for executing an acid flush to restore the entire system every time. It has to be seen if Trump can make peace with Iran too in the near future.
