Indian-Origin Man Chases Wife, Arrested in US!

Despite strict laws and heavy penalties in place, Indians citizens residing in USA have no fear for arrest and face the consequences for resorting to crimes.

As per the latest reports, an Indian origin entrepreneur who runs a restaurant in North Carolina in USA has been arrested over charges of attempt to murder his wife over a domestic violence case reported after the couple’s daughter alerted the police through 911 helpline.

The accused has been identified as 49 year old Mathivanan Pothiyappan, who runs the famous CholaNad Indian restaurant on West Franklin Street. He was initially arrested earlier this month for charges including physical assault and domestic violence and was released on bail with $5,000 bond. But, the latest incident has once again led to his arrest and subsequent release on bail for a $1,00,000 bond.

Pothiyappan’s wife has reportedly informed the police that she had been a victim of verbal and physical abuse by the accused for a long time. She admitted that her husband had assaulted her multiple times over a period and also threatened to kill her.

After an argument broke out between the couple, Mathivanan hit her with a bag of objects before threatening her with a wife. When she tried to escape and started running for life out of the house, Mathivanan chased her in his car. Their daughter who was the witness for the entire altercation quickly reached out to the police for help.

As part of the pre trial conditions, Mathivanan was barred from interacting with the family and also made to surrender his passport. He will face further investigation and will need to attend enquiry for the charges arraigned on him. The restaurant has since been closed.
