Trump Losing Support Of South Asian Americans?

US President Donald Trump is going to face a litmus test with the midterm elections this November because his government has been facing a lot of criticism on various socio economic and geopolitical issues. These polls are likely to be very significant for the next two years of his tenure as they will decide which party will hold control of the congress.

In what could be a setback, pre-poll surveys reveal that 25 percent of South Asian Americans who voted for Donald Trump in 2024 now plan to vote for Democrats. The fresh poll conducted by HIT Strategies shows growing anger among minority communities against Trump’s recent policies.

Overall, around 60 percent of South Asian voters say they will back Democratic candidates as the party tries to win back control of Congress. The survey highlights that Indian origin Americans, who made up almost 90 percent of the people polled, are becoming increasingly unhappy with the current administration.

A shocking 90 percent of respondents reported that they or someone they know experienced racial discrimination in recent times. Concerns over rising hate crimes and anti-immigrant sentiment are driving many voters away from Trump’s camp.

It is a known fact that Trump’s government tightened immigration norms and cracked a strong whip on immigrants. Voters also expressed strong frustration regarding the rising cost of living and recent military escalations in the Middle East, including the ongoing conflict with Iran.

All these factors could potentially impact the outcome of midterms. Political analysts say this shifting trend among South Asians could decide close election outcomes in key states like Michigan and Texas. Thousands of registered South Asian voters who skipped previous local elections could now turn out to vote against Republicans.

While Trump gained significant support from Asian voters back in the 2024 presidential race, that support seems to be fading quickly now in the crucial midterms. The exact mood of the public in USA will be known once the elections are done.
