Final Twist: Trump Threatens To Resume War

The ongoing conflict between USA and Iran has more twists and turns than a perfect thriller movie because no statement or deal announced by either sides is lasting more a few days. When everyone is expecting a relief from the three and a half month long crisis, US President Donald Trump has once again given a big twist with his latest statement.

Just a couple of days after halting the military escalation against Iran, Trump on Wednesday warned that the interim agreement reached does not guarantee a lasting end to the conflict. In his aggressive style, Trump threatened that military action could resume if Tehran fails to comply with the terms of the understanding.

Both countries are supposed to sign a historic deal this Friday and end the months long conflict. But, Trump made it clear that the agreement remains provisional and tied future peace efforts to Iran’s conduct. He made these comments during the ongoing G7 Summit at France. Trump also quashed ongoing reports that the USA would provide Iran with a $300 billion reconstruction fund as part of the deal.

Trump said he would resume bombing on Iran if he was dissatisfied with the terms of the recently agreed upon or if Tehran did not behave correctly. Interestingly, these remarks came as G7 leaders formally backed the interim US-Iran deal and called for broader regional de-escalation, including an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon.

For the first time since the start of the war, oil prices have dropped. This is because the marine activity across the Strait of Hormuz is back to normalcy. If the situation continues, it could benefit many countries including India. So, the next couple of days will be very crucial not just for Iran and USA, but also for Middle East and Asia.

According to reliable reports in the media, the proposed deal includes several key terms covering a ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, financial relief measures for Iran, and an assurance from Tehran that it will not develop a nuclear weapon.

But, it is unclear if these terms are final or just speculative. Moreover, it remains to be seen if Iran agrees to all stipulations or not. Any denial would mean that Trump will go back to his usual style and resume the military activity.
