Bad News For Drishyam Telugu Fans

Drishyam 3, starring Mohanlal, was released in Telugu as a direct-to-digital release. While the first two versions were remade, the third was not. Interestingly, a controversy was doing the rounds about the film, in which director Sri Priya, who helmed the remake of the first version, approached the Madras High Court, claiming that she owns the Telugu rights to the film.

Director Sripriya and her company, Rajkumar Theatres Private Limited, have approached the Madras High Court, claiming ownership of the Telugu rights to the film. Sripriya and Rajkumar Sethupathi have filed a petition seeking a permanent ban on the release in Telugu. In a recent verdict, the Madras High Court has restrained the makers of the Malayalam movie “Drishyam 3” from releasing the Telugu-dubbed version on OTT platforms.

As the film is scheduled for a grand release on the 18th of this month, Justice K Kumaresh Babu made the interim order on a plea moved by film production company Rajkumar Theatre Pvt Ltd. The judge noted that though private notices were issued already and none of the respondents had entered appearance.

As a result, the court also noticed that the film is slated for a release on OTT platforms on 18th, the court thus ordered an interim injunction.

“It is to be noted that, in spite of service of private notice on them, none of the respondents has entered appearance or is present before this Court. Their names have also been printed in the cause list. In such view of the matter, there shall be an order of interim injunction, restraining the Respondents/Defendants, their servants, agents, employees, assignees, licensees and everyone claiming under or through the Respondents/Defendants from exploiting the copyrights of the applicant by releasing the same in the OTT Platform,” the court said.

The reason why the third part was not remade to Telugu is unknown and there were no issues for the second part which was released during the COVID time.
