The United States has paused its military strikes on Iran for the second consecutive day, offering a ray of hope for easing tensions in the Middle East. President Donald Trump approved the temporary pause to give diplomacy a chance and avoid further escalation.
Iran has also indicated that it will not launch fresh attacks as long as the US continues to hold back its military action. Reports suggest that backchannel talks are underway through mediators, with both sides trying to prevent the conflict from worsening.
The recent fighting had raised fears of a wider regional war and pushed global oil prices higher. However, the pause in military action has brought some relief to international markets, with oil prices falling on expectations that negotiations could move forward.
Although the situation remains tense, the current pause is being viewed as the best opportunity so far for both countries to return to the negotiating table. At the same time, officials have warned that military operations could resume if the talks fail or the ceasefire understanding is broken.
