Mani Ratnam’s last film was Thug Life and the film did not do well at the box office. Many opined that Mani Ratnam must look at the stories he is brewing, which are not in line with the preferences of the new-age audiences.

However, Mani Ratnam is falling back to his comfort zone of crafting love stories. With Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi playing leads in his next, the director picked Kolkata as a backdrop for his film.

The team recently reached Kolkata and began the shoot for the film. The last time Mani was in Kolkata and shot for a film was for Raavan, which was released in the year 2009. Now, Mani Ratnam is back in the beautiful city where many love stories were brought to the big screen. Currently, the film’s shoot is happening near the Howrah Bridge.

Howrah Bridge stands as an iconic monument that witnessed several classic love stories that later received evergreen status. Mani Ratnam is known for great love stories, and he seems to be shaping up one that could be the next blockbuster. Mani is working with Vijay for the second time after Chekka Chivantha Vaanam and he is working with Sai Pallavi for the first time. Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions are producing the film jointly.
