Gandhi Statue Vandalized; US Says Sorry

In a disgraceful incident, the Mahatma Gandhi statue outside Indian Embassy in Washington DC was vandalized by unidentified men. As we know the US is boiling with anti-racism protests, some miscreants have damaged the statue.

Fumed over this the Indian Embassy has lodged a complaint with US Department of State, Metropolitan Police and National Park Service. According to the preliminary investigation, this incident was reported to have taken place on the intervening night of June 2nd and 3rd.

As India lodged a complaint, the US Ambassador to India Ken Juster reacted on it. “So sorry to see the desecration of the Gandhi statue in Washington, DC. Please accept our sincere apologies. Appalled as well by the horrific death of George Floyd and the awful violence and vandalism. We stand against prejudice & discrimination of any type. We will recover and be better,” said Ken in his tweet.

This Gandhi statue is a bronze one and the length is about 8 feet 8 inches. The statue was established on September 16, 2000 in the presence of ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and ex-US President Bill Clinton.
