PM Modi Inspects Construction Site Of The New Parliament

Published by

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the construction site of the new Parliament building in Delhi late this evening and the pictures on the same are doing rounds on the internet. Modi can be seen doing the first-hand inspection at the work-in-progress areas and he also wore a safety helmet.

The building is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 970 crore and is likely to get completed by 2022. The pictures also showed how the PM interacted and discussed the work with the workers at the site as this was Modi’s first inspection ever to the site.

During the second wave of the pandemic, the opposition parties drew flak on the construction work saying that the project should be stopped to save funds for management of the COVID-19 crisis. However, the PM laid the foundation stone for the new Parliament in December 2020.

The main Central Vista project envisages building a new Parliament House, a new residential complex to house offices and the Prime Minister and the Vice President. It will further have a Central Secretariat and other office buildings, built with Rs 235 crore budget.

According to the government, the estimated costs to be incurred on these two projects for the financial year 2021-22 is Rs 1,289 crore. The government stated that the ongoing Central Vista redevelopment project would lead to a saving of Rs 1000 crore via rent for government offices.
