HC Nod To Amaravati Farmers’ Public Meeting

Published by

In a setback to the YCP government, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has given a green signal to the Amaravati farmers, who led the ‘Nyayasthanam to Devasthanam’ padayatra, to conduct the public meeting in Tirupati on December 17 as had been planned by them earlier.

The court asked the farmers to hold the meeting from 1 pm till 6 pm, following the protocols. The public meeting was planned as part of the valedictory by the farmers who took part in the walkathon under the leadership of Amaravati Parirakshana Samiti demanding that Amaravati alone should be the capital of Andhra Pradesh.

The High Court issued the orders after the Amaravati farmers approached it stating that the police had refused to grant them permission for holding the meet on the grounds that it could lead to law and order problem as the Rayalaseema Intellectual Forum also sought permission to hold a meeting in Tirupati on the same day, in support to the three capital proposal raised by the YCP government.

The Rayalaseema Intellectual Forum also moved the court seeking permission for their public meeting.

After hearing to the farmers and the Intellectual Fourm, the High Court directed the authorities to allow the Amaravati hold their meeting on December 17 and the Rayalaseema Intellectual Forum on December 18.

The Amaravati farmers thanked the court for issuing orders in their favour by kneeling and folding their hands on the road.
