The districts reorganisation has yet again hit the headlines with Andhra Pradesh is all set to reorganise the 13 districts in the state. The notification for the same is anticipated to be out in another two or three days. According to highly placed sources, the government is planning to complete the reorganisation of districts and initiate the new ones by the Telugu New Year i.e, Ugadi.
What is the strategy of the YCP government on new districts? In its 2019 election manifesto, YSRCP said it would convert every Parliament (Lok Sabha) segment into a new district and for the same, the state government relied on the 2021 population census. However due to delay in census, the district reorganisation was pushed inevitably.
25 Lok Sabha segments represent Andhra Pradesh in Parliament and currently the state has 13 districts. The YCP government has plans to add 13 new districts and they are Aaraku (two districts), Anakapalli, Rajahmundry, Amalapuram, Narsapuram, Eluru, Vijayawada, Narsaraopeta, Baptla, Nandyal, Hindupur and Rajampet.
The revenue department is likely to issue a preliminary notification and this is to invite suggestions, objections for the new district. 30 days’ time is slotted for these recommendations and based on the feedback, the state government will issue a final notification and that would call for new districts announcement. A date will be included in the final notification as well.
