Kapil Sibal Quits Congress; Goes Independent

Senior most advocate in the country Kapil Sibal has resigned from the Congress party in a major development. Adding a big twist to this tale, Kapil went on to file nomination for Rajya Sabha on behalf of Mulayam Singh’s Yadav’s party but Kapil did not join the Cycle party.

After filing nomination, Kapil said, “I’ve filed nomination as Independent candidate. I have always wanted to be an independent voice in the country.”

About leaving Congress, Kapil made interesting comments that he is not a Congressman anymore and resigned to the party on May 16th which is nearly ten days but the news came out very late.

Kapil is already an Upper House remember but his term will end on July 4th. In order to retain the Rajya Sabha membership, Kapil took this drastic decision to leave Congress.

But Kapil is one of the many Congress veterans who raised the voice against the Gandhi leadership and were deeply upset with the party affairs. Finally Kapil exited Congress having tried all the options and routes.

This is a major setback for Congress as Kapil has been one of the key leaders who was instrumental in decision making. In UPA second term, Kapil was part of the Union Cabinet and that’s how significant he is in the Congress.
