Amid the political crisis in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray resigned on June 29, a few minutes after the Supreme Court refused to stay the governor-ordered floor test in the assembly scheduled for tomorrow.
Uddhav Thackeray announced his resignation also saying that he is quitting his membership in the legislative council. ‘I had come (to power) in an unexpected manner and I am going out in a similar fashion. I am not going away forever, I will be here, and I will once again sit in Shiv Sena Bhawan. I will gather all my people,’ he further said.
Uddhav Thackeray held his final cabinet meeting as the CM hours before his resignation. In the meeting, he announced to rename Aurangabad as Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv. These two were long-pending demands of the Shiv Sena.
The political crisis in Maharashtra started on June 20 after more than a dozen legislators of the Shiv Sena moved to Surat and turned incommunicado.
