Prez Polls: Thackeray’s U-turn

Former CM of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray took a big u turn in supporting the BJP’s candidate in the Presidential elections. Short while ago, Uddhav Thackeray announced that Shiv Sena party will be supporting Draupadi Murmu in the presidential election.

This decision from Uddhav Thackeray arrived after there was severe pressure from Shiv Sena MLAs, MLCs and MPs. But Thackeray denied that there wasn’t any pressure from his party leaders and decided to support Murmu since she hails from a tribal community.

“Honestly we were not supposed to support BJP’s candidate in the Presidential elections. But Shiv Sena is not a narrow minded political party while Draupadi Murmu happens to be from Aadivaasi (tribal) community and she can become India’s first woman from the community to be the President. Hence we are going to vote for Murmu in the Presidential elections,” said Uddhav Thackeray.

Though Uddhav categorically stated that he did not bow down to the pressure, it is evident that he did. Shiv Sena has 18 MPs representation in the Parliament and it would play a vital role in the voting.

Uddhav Thackeray’s decision may bring a split in the alliance of Shiv Sena, Nationalistic Congress party and the Congress which the BJP hatched the plan to break and it succeeded.
