AP CM YS Jagan defended his government’s decision to rename NTR Health University after his father, late YS Rajasekhar Reddy. Speaking in the Assembly Jagan added that before taking this decision, he gave a thought and even questioned himself.
“I questioned myself about the decision to rename NTR Health University after YSR. After deep thoughts, my conscience said it was the right decision,” said Jagan and added that YSR was an MBBS doctor. “Before stepping into politics, YSR ran a hospital in Pulivendula and he earned a name from people that he served the poor and needy. YSR was the creator of schemes like ArogyaSri, ambulance services like 108 and 104. I thoroughly believe that YSR contributed a lot,” stated Jagan.
Trying to defend the decision, Jagan further said that he has immense respect for late NTR. “I have high regards for NTR and this decision is no way demeaning his stature. In fact I respect NTR more than Chandrababu Naidu. I have never spoken against or disrespecting him and I will not indulge in any activity that shames him,” said the CM.
Pushing the controversy on Chandrababu, Jagan criticised that if there is a person who doesn’t have any respect towards NTR, he is none other than the TDP chief. “If NTR was alive, Chandrababu Naidu would have never become Chief Minister. He betrayed and backstabbed NTR for selfish political gains and reasons. Ironically Chandrababu Naidu speaks a lot in favour of NTR but he did not manage to get Bharat Ratna for his father-in-law. Naidu remembers NTR’s name only when the former is in opposition and during elections,” quipped Jagan.
Earlier, the AP Assembly approved the amendment bill to rename NTR Health University after YSR. TDP MLAs staged protest and they were subsequently suspended and the bill was smoothly passed in the Assembly.
