Amaravati: Status Quo Extended Till Sept. 21

The Bills relating to trifurcation of the Capital and repeal of the CRDA Act are pending in the High Court.

The AP High Court heard petitions filed in connection with the Capital issue on Thursday and decided to begin their trial on a daily basis from September 21.

The three-judge bench made it clear that the Capital petitions would be heard in the High Court only. The status quo orders issued in relation to the Repeal of CRDA Act come to an end today. Hence, the HC issued orders extending the status quo on the Capital issue till September 21.

The Bills relating to the Capital issue passed in the Assembly would not be implemented till the status quo orders are valid. The next hearing of the case has been adjourned to September 21.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s advocate and Supreme Court senior lawyer Nitish Gupta also filed a contempt of court petition. He said that the YCP government was planning to build a big guest house at Kapuluppada in Vizag and took it to the notice of the court that when the status quo orders were under enforcement, how could the construction works be taken up.

He argued that construction of the guest house was also a part of shifting the executive capital from Amaravati to Vizag. Immediately, the High Court ordered the Chief Secretary to file a counter on the issue before September 10.

All the petitions filed by farmers, people’s organisations and elected representative in connection with the Capital issue total to 70 and the three-judge bench took up hearing of all the petitions at once.

The shifting of the Executive Capital has been on the YCP government’s mind since the day it was voted to power.
