Published by

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, had a video conference with Chief Ministers of states, which was held for nearly three long hours. Among them, six states CMs have asked PM to extend the nationwide lockdown post-May 3 in order to control the rapid spread of coronavirus.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said that the lockdown should be extended at least till May 21. She also said that though she prefers to extend the lockdown, the relaxations should also be increased, and the CM has given permission for the home deliveries of non-essential goods in Kolkata.

The other five CMs , Jaganmohan Reddy (Andhra Pradesh), Pramod Sawant (Goa), Jai Ram Thakur (Himachal Pradesh), Zoramthanga (Mizoram) and Conrad Sangma (Meghalaya) has asked for the extension of Lockdown without mentioning any timeline. During the video conference, Modi told the chief ministers that the lockdown would definitely continue in hotspot zones and talking about relaxations, he asked CMs to take the decisions as per their states’ situations.

In spite of Goa being corona free now, its chief minister Pramod Sawant supported the extension of lockdown with relaxation for economic activities within the state. However, he prefers borders of the states to be closed as precautionary measures. Today was the fourth video conference of Modi with the chief ministers after the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
