Amaravati Can’t Be A Gated Community Of The Elite: Jagan

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that over 31 lakh house sites were distributed to the women in the state and that it means property worth Rs 75,000 crore was given to the needy. Under the DBT and non-DBT schemes, over Rs 3 lakh crore was deposited into the accounts of the poor in the last four years, under the Navaratnalu, he said.

Jagan alleged that Naidu, JS chief Pawan Kalyan and the yellow media together was a burglar gang which aimed at making Amaravati as a gated community of the elite. The YCP government would distributed land sites to 50,000 poor families there and the works relating to construction of houses in those sites would also begin on May 26, he added.

He fumed at opposition leader and TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu and said that his words smacked of feudalism. Naidu objected to giving lands to the poor in Amaravati capital region which reflects a sort of untouchabiity, the CM said. The Opposition leader also compared the house sites distributed by the YCP government with graves and by doing this, he has insulted the poor. Naidu could not give at least one cent land to the poor during his regime but tried to create hurdles in the way of the YCP government when it tried to distribute the same, Jagan pointed out.

Also, the Naidu had made it clear that the children of the underprivileged do not need English medium education and this should help one understand that he has no concern for the poor, Jagan said.

The CM was addressing a gathering during the inauguration of the Machilipatnam Port works this morning. He participated in the foundation laying ceremony and then inaugurated the works. The port will help in the development of the coastal area in Krishna district. He also inaugurated the break water works in Tapasipudi district. Earlier, he performed special pooja to Gangamma Thalli at the sea.

The port will help Bandar to become one Mumbai or Chennai, he said. The Machilipatnam port would be inaugurated with a capacity of 35 million tonnes and would soon be expanded to 116 million tonne. This port will be utilized not just by Andhra Pradesh but also by neighbouring Telangana and Chhattisgarh, he said, adding that the works would be completed in the next 24 months. Soon, port-allied subsidiary units would be set up in the 4,000 acres of land acquired for the port.

Jagan said that admissions in the medical college being constructed in Machilipatnam at a cost of Rs 550 crore would begin this academic year. Works at the fishing harbor would also be completed soon. For this, over Rs 420 crore is being spent.

The CM proudly claimed that in the last four years three greenfield ports – Ramayapatnam, Machilipatnam and Mulapeta, were begun at a cost of Rs 16,000 crore. Over 20,000 jobs would be generated by these three ports and the Gateway Port at Kakinada, he said.
