AP Sand Mafia: Supreme Court Fired Up With Arguments!

One of the most infamous scams committed by the previous YSR Congress government in Andhra Pradesh are the liquor scam and the sand mafia syndicates. Both of them are under judicial check now, and there is a significant update regarding the sand scam investigation now.

It is alleged that the government of Andhra Pradesh had illicitly allocated multiple contracts to JP ventures who were fined Rs 7 crore for irregularities in sand procurement and disturbance to natural resources.

This matter has reached the Supreme Court with the representatives of the state government, arguing that the JP ventures had been fined ₹18 crore and they’re to be held responsible. In response to this, the company argued that they were initially fined ₹7 crore and they made the payment in full to the court.

It was reported that the national green tribunal NGT had already passed the relevant report and it must be implemented by the JP Ventures by paying the total Rs 18 crore fine. This company is arguing that they had only seven sand contracts on their name during the previous government and they have paid the fines already while the rest of contracts were with the government itself.

So it has to be seen, what would be the next update from the Supreme Court as the regularities in sand procurement under the previous government are being exposed one by one.
