As heavy rains continue to pour, the Kadem Project in Nirmal district is grappling with an overflow of water, raising concerns of flooding. With an influx of 3 lakh 87 thousand cusecs of water from upstream sources, the project’s water level currently stands at 697 feet, approaching its maximum capacity of 700 feet.
To manage the rising water levels, authorities have taken quick action by opening 14 flood gates, releasing 2 lakh 47 thousand cusecs of water downstream. As a result, residents in low-lying areas are being evacuated to ensure their safety.
The continuous inflow of floodwater since the 15th of this month has led to increased attention from both officials and tourists from nearby districts. However, for safety reasons, tourists have been restricted from approaching the project area.
With the Kadem Project nearing its full capacity, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and implementing necessary measures to prevent potential flooding risks. Residents in the region are advised to stay alert and follow instructions from local authorities to safeguard themselves during this critical period.
